BBMP asks Bescom employees to collect voters’ data

Bengaluru: Considering the mistake, it made in handing over the responsibility of collecting voter data to a private organisation, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has now stepped forward to seek the help of government officials to rework the voters’ list. Much to the surprise of the staff, it is the first time that Bescom employees are being asked to work on the voters’ data collection.

According to sources, the BBMP has now sought help from the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) employees to conduct door-to-door campaigns and collect voter information from all the assembly constituencies under the BBMP jurisdiction.

The sources also said that a few Bescom employees had objected to the BBMP’s decision. Earlier, only teachers were given the responsibility to conduct such campaigns. However, this time the BBMP Commissioner has ordered to depute of technical and nontechnical staff employed at division and sub-division offices under Bescom zones for the job.
