Bengaluru: The BBMP has resumed its anti-encroachment drive and has been razing down structures that have been built on rajakaluves or stormwater drains.
In its clearance operation on Thursday, the municipal body razed down six encroachments in Shantiniketan Layout, Munnekollal and ABK village. Two buildings built on a 30-by-40- foot plot encroaching a stormwater drain have been cleared in Shantiniketan and Munnekollal.
Two sheds within the vicinity have also been demolished. One shed and a 60-metre compound wall encroaching another stormwater drain in ABK village have been cleared. Once the Tahsildar of Bengaluru city issues notices to encroachers in the Mahadevapura zone, the responsible officers will begin the required measures of eviction and then demolition.
The BBMP has said that a total of 1174 encroachments have been identified in Mahadevapura since 2015-16. Out of these, 1032 encroachments have already been cleared, and 142 are yet to be cleared. 11 of these encroachments have reached the doors of court and are awaiting an order.
All the work related to the eviction of the remaining 131 encroachments is being carried out, and necessary steps are being taken for the eviction of stormwater encroachments, a BBMP official said.
