Bengaluru: A biker and the pillion rider were found dead near a premier educational institute on the Bengaluru- Mysuru Road. Even after five days of the accident, the jurisdictional traffic police are unable to trace their identity.

The bodies are still kept in the Rajarajeswari Medical College and Hospital near Kengeri Satellite Town on Mysuru Road. The police had initially suspected that it was a hit-and-run case and even started searching for the vehicle and its driver who fled the accident spot.

As the police started checking the details of the blue colour Pulsar bike assuming that one of the deceased could be its owner, they were shocked to know that both the deceased were bike thieves.

After the Pulsar bike got stolen, its owner filed a complaint in the Pandavapura police station in Mandya.

“Both the bodies are in the Rajarajeswari hospital’s mortuary. The initial suspicion was that both the victims could have died after their vehicle was hit by another unknown vehicle. Since the Pulsar bike was on the spot, we checked with the RTO authorities to find out its owner.

Based on the address and the contact details of the bike owner, we managed to call a person identified as Kiran Kumar of Pandavapura. From him, we got to know that the bike was stolen on December 1, and he had filed a police complaint,” said a traffic official on part of the investigation.

The accused after stealing the bike had come towards Bengaluru and travelled almost 80 kilometres. The police suspect that after riding in front of the Ramanagar police station, they might have overspeed fearing that the police might be chasing them. In the rush, they have hit the road median or the wall of a building and have fallen almost 25 metres from the spot and have died on the spot.

“The pictures of the bike lifters have been sent to all the police stations in the nearby districts.

Since they are bike thieves, we are also checking if their database is available in any of the police stations as their address, so that the police can visit the family members and inform them about the deaths,” the officer added.

A case of death by negligence (IPC 304A) and rash driving or riding on a public way (IPC 279) has been registered against the rider of the bike. Further investigations are on.
