Votegate: BBMP blacklists Chilume group
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to blacklist the Chilume Organisation which was allegedly found involved in voters’ data theft in the city.
The BBMP Chief Tushar Girinath on Tuesday ordered that the organisation be blacklisted for misusing the provisions provided to it by the BBMP in order to create awareness about the ECI’s Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation programme (SVEEP) among the voters in several constituencies of Bengaluru.
Chilume group claiming itself to be a non-profit organisation had obtained the contract from the BBMP, also allegedly at the behest of several BJP leaders in the city. However, it was soon revealed that the workers of the group had impersonated booth-level officers and collected data from the voters through a mobilebased app.
Meanwhile, the BBMP has blacklisted the Chilume Organisation restricting it from performing any other contractual duty or obtaining any contract from the government in future.
