Mysuru: Inmates of a hostel run by the University of Mysore resorted to a snap strike after they found a dead rat in the breakfast served to them Wednesday morning.

The inmates of Block-2 were served pulao in which one of the students found a fried rat. At first, they mistook it for fried vegetable, and on closer inspection, found that it was a dead rat. Some other students too found parts of a rat in their food and showed them to the cooks.

The cooks disposed off the prepared pulao and accepted their mistake agreeing to cook something afresh but the students refused and set out to hold a protest. They marched to the main entrance of the Manasagangotri campus where they sat on a dharna slamming varsity officials for giving the food contract to a person who was unable to provide good food.

They claimed that their demand to change the contractor had not been considered and blocked the main entrance raising slogans against varsity officials. They called off their strike only after the officials promised to take necessary action including changing the food contractor.
