Bengaluru: Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) Chairman S.R. Vishwanath on Sunday performed Bhumi Puja for the Hebbal Overpass expansion project, which had been stalled for the past decade.
In order to alleviate the vehicular traffic on the flyover which is a necessity, the first phase of the project was flagged off and a three-lane flyover will be constructed from Airport Road towards Bangalore and a three-lane underpass will be constructed on the Yeshwantpur-KR Puram route.
Vishwanath mentioned that a total project of Rs. 225 cr has been set aside for the expansion of the Hebbal flyover and the money has also been sanctioned. He added that now the first phase of work has been started and an amount of Rs. 87 cr was allotted.
A flyover with a total length of 715 meters will be constructed from the airport towards Bangalore city and, initially two lanes from the airport side will loop and join KR Puram. Vishwanath also informed that a three-lane underpass will be constructed from Yeshwantpur side towards KR puram.
A timeline of 26 months was set for the task, but the contractor has been given a time frame to complete the work in one year for the benefit of the public. Bangalore North Lok Sabha Member, DV Sadananda Gowda, while acknowledging the congestion of the Hebbal traffic, welcomed the BDA initiative.
