Bidar: The former chief minister turned his attention to Hyderabad-Karnataka as JD(S) Pancharatna Rath Yatra made its way to the district on Friday as he talked up his party’s chances in the district in the upcoming Assembly elections in May.

In the 2018 Assembly elections, JD(S)’ Bandeppa Kashempur managed to win the Bidar South constituency, besting BJP’s Shailendra Beldale by over 12,000 votes. Since then, Kashempur has been central to the party’s plans in the district.

“When I see the people’s reactions during the roadshows here, it is apparent that they have a good opinion of our party. Today, I accompanied our candidate (from Bidar North) Ramesh Patil, City unit members, corporators and our leaders with immense confidence to boost our organizational capabilities,” Kumaraswamy said.

He visited Ammapur village in Bidar North constituency as well. He said Patil would undertake a march in the Bidar North constituency from January 12, adding that he was confident that JD(S) would win the segment.

“I feel confident we have strength and support in Bidar district this time. We had organisational deficiencies because we couldn’t convert the support into votes. We haven’t started that work with great enthusiasm today,” the former chief minister added.

Kumaraswamy said that JD(S) would focus on farmers’ issues, including the destruction of crops due to heavy rain, among other issues. He added that there was an anti-BJP wave in the state, on which JD(S) hoped to capitalise.
