Bengaluru: This chase for the two murder accused was no less dramatic than any movie scene. The Tavarekere police accomplished their mission after a hot pursuit of almost 15 kilometres.

Since both the accused were under the influence of alcohol, the police took measures to ensure that they did not pose a threat to other motorists. The policemen in the jeep informed their colleagues at the police station to barricade the entire road.

The policemen even got a lorry parked across the road on the Magadi Main Road and barricaded the road in front of the Tavarekere police station. As the two accused had no space to escape, they finally stopped the bike and surrendered. The entire chase and arrest happened between 1 am and 3 am on Monday.

The arrested are identified as Sunil Kumar, 24, and Girish, 22, both plumbers by profession and residents of Laggere in Peenya. The deceased has been identified as Ganesh, 19, also a plumber and resident of Laggere. The deceased and the accused were close friends.

On Sunday, Kumar invited his two friends to his home town Mandya for a party. Before going, they had consumed alcohol at a bar in Peenya. Then they headed towards Mandya in a bike. En route, they decided to make a visit to Thippagondanahallireservoir.

“While riding the bike, Ganesh lost control at Manchenahalli and they all fell down. Kumar and Girish told Ganesh to sit in pillion and Kumar started riding the bike. Ganesh was seated in the middle.

Upset over being told to sit in pillion, Ganesh started shaking the bike while it was on the move and the three fell down again. This angered Kumar and Girish, who started beating Ganesh with stones. Since all the three were under the influence of alcohol, they attacked Ganesh mercilessly. After realising that they have killed Ganesh, the two accused brought the body on the bike and threw it in the Thippagondanahalli reservoir. A local resident, identified as Venkatesh, happened to see them and alerted the police,” S Girsih, Superintendent of Police, Ramanagara district told NT.

This tip off by Venkatesh helped the police launch a prompt chase and arrest. The body was returned on Tuesday
