Ramanagara: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar on Sunday wooed electors from his constituency Kanakapura as he participated in ‘Kanakotsava’ programme held in the town.
Shivakumar had bagged a mammoth 1,27,552 votes in the Kanakapura segment in the 2018 Assembly elections, beating out the second place candidate JD(S)’ Narayana Gowda by over 79,000 votes. The local MLA told his constituents that he had ensured plentiful funds were released for the segment and that development had taken place as a result.
“You have helped me grow by blessing me. You have sent me to the Assembly seven times,” he said. “Even when Suresh (Bengaluru Rural MP and Shivakumar’s brother) and I had declined politely, you made him contest and sent him to the parliament the past three times. This is all down to your blessings,” he added.
“Your eyes are witness to the work done. How many schools did you have in the past and how many do you have now? What was the internet penetration before and what is it now? You can see what we have done in terms of drinking water facilities. We have done work to make your lands fertile. We have laid roads. You can see the difference from the past 10 to 15 years,” Shivakumar said.
Congress MLA from Chittapur and former minister Priyank Kharge, who was also present on the occasion, said that people who had travelled from the rural areas of Kanakapura to urban centres for livelihoods and taken care of their families were no less achievers when compared to famous sportspersons and statesmen.
