Bengaluru: While the civic agencies are hard at work trying to decongest major city junctions, more and more vehicles are being added to the city roads every day.

According to the transport department, around 50,000 new vehicles hit the roads in November last year. With the number of people shifting to Bengaluru on the rise, the number of vehicles has also skyrocketed here.

Though there is public transportation such as buses and metro trains available in the city, the number of people buying private vehicles has been on the rise almost on a daily basis creating more traffic, a transport department official told News Trail on Sunday.

Every year during the months of October and November, automobile retail sales witness a sudden boom due to the festival season demand and the attractive offers being made to prospective buyers during Dussehra and Deepavali compared to other months.

"As of October 2022, there were 95.7 lakh non-transport vehicles and 3.7 lakh light motor passenger vehicles in use across Bengaluru. However by the end of November, more than 50,000 more vehicles were added to the number," the transport official said.

The Karnataka state has nearly 3 crore vehicles out of which Bengaluru alone accounts for 37 per cent of them. The number of vehicles in the state rose by 1,16,918 in the months of October and November last year, the official further added.

According to the figures of the transport department, at least 45,177 new non-transport vehicles including two-wheelers, private cars, tractors, trailers and construction-moving equipment, hit Bengaluru roads in November every year.
