Resident alleges harassment by cop

Bengaluru: The number of police officers being reported for demanding bribes or abusing their roles has soared recently following changes to strengthen how an issue is investigated in the city.

In a fresh incident, a resident of Dj Halli (who doesn't want to be named) alleged harassment from an officer attached to the jurisdictional police station. The resident alleged that he had procured a loan of Rs 10 lakh from an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, at an interest rate of 5 per cent. He alleged that the officer had been running finance schemes as an additional source of income.

Further, the officer is alleged to have asked the resident to introduce more of his friends to the scheme. However, the persons whom the resident had introduced, absconded after taking loans from the ASI. Trapped in a complicated situation, the resident has alleged that the officer is now pressing him to repay the lost money from his own pocket. He also alleged that the officer had threatened to file a false case against him if he did not repay the amount.

The resident claimed that he had written a letter to the Director General of Police regarding the matter seeking relief from harassment. A copy of the letter has been sent to the Karnataka chief minister as well as the home minister, he claimed. So far there has been no response from the police officers over the matter, he added.
