Bengaluru: A day after the death of an 18-year-old college student, who allegedly jumped off a highrise building in the city on Sunday evening, it is learnt that the deceased was suffering from depression and had attempted suicide earlier by overdosing on medical drugs.
As per sources close to the family, the deceased, Prakruthi, who was a student of Sophia Pre-University College in Bengaluru, had an argument with her parents at her home in Sanjaynagar on Sunday before walking out in a huff. They said that she quarrelled with her parents over her losing weight and not consulting a doctor about it. Later when Prakruthi's mother tried to contact her over phone, Prakruthi said she would be returning home late.
The parents received a call informing about her death, sources told News Trail. High Grounds police who investigated the spot said that the student had gained access to the High Point (HP3) apartment building by telling the security guard that she knew one of the residents there. She went inside, took the lift to the terrace, jumped off the building and died on the spot.
