Bengaluru, Dec. 9 Residents of Hoodi and lake activists are happy that the BBMP Lakes Department has begun the restoration of Hoodi Lake bund that had caved in during the recent wet spell. This lake was rejuvenated barely a few months ago at an estimated cost of `2.50 crore.
News Trail had on December 6 published a report highlighting the substandard lake bund work and how it was posing a danger to the visitors. “I am happy that the BBMP has taken the initiative to fix the problem. I want the BBMP authorities to black list the contractor,” said Balaji Raghotham, a lake activist. He recalled how the substandard work at Basavanapura Lake had damaged the lake bund.
Raghavendra B Pachhapur, a lake conservationist, wondered how BBMP could allow such shoddy work to happen. “Isn’t BBMP the custodian of lakes in the city? How could such technical work happen without BBMP Lakes Department’s involvement?,’’ Pachhapur asked.
The BBMP engineer (lakes) has said the restoration of the lake bund would be completed soon.
