Bengaluru: In a heart-wrenching incident, an 11-yearold boy spent almost two days with the body of his mother at home thinking that she was sleeping. The woman was found dead when the boy asked a relative to speak to his mother as he felt that she was not speaking to him because she was angry.
The boy, Surya lived in a small house on Ganganagar 5th cross in the city along with his parents Ilangovan and Annamma, 44. According to sources close to the family, the couple had been suffering from various health issues.
"Ilangovan died eight months ago due to kidney failure and Surya has been living with his mother since then. Recently, Annamma suffered a stroke and was unable to speak properly. Occasionally, the motherson was helped financially by some of their relatives and Ilangovan's friends," Usha, a neighbour told News Trail.
Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that Annamma had died due to low sugar and blood pressure on February 26. It was also said that she had been suffering from other health issues including hypertension. Annamma died in her sleep and her son spent two days with her body without realising that she was dead, the police said.
An officer from the RT Nagar police station said that when Surya found that his mother had not woken up on February 27, he went to the school thinking that she was resting. "However when he returned in the afternoon, he found her in the same position. As he was starving, he went out and bought some snacks and went back home. He later saw that his mother had not eaten the snacks that he had kept for her and assumed that she was angry with him," the officer said.
Further the officer said that on February 28 Surya told one of the relatives that his mother was not speaking to him following which the matter came to light that she had died. “They have been living here for many years. Initially, we thought the stench was because of dead rats. The boy did not tell anyone and called his father’s friend and informed him. When they checked, they found that Annamma had died. We then took them to a hospital.
After the death of her husband, Annamma had turned recluse and spoke very less. When we inquired about her Surya, he told us that she did not eat well”, Usha added. The police said that the boy had gone to school when the door was opened and his mother was found dead. Annamma's brother took custody of the boy for now, the police added.
