Bengaluru: The KPCC President D K.Shivakumar’s statement that three senior Janata Dal(Secular) leaders including Hassan City constituency JD(S) ticket aspirant H.P.Swaroop are in touch with him, has come as a big shocker to JD(S) leaders of Hassan.
Swaroop has been a strong contender for the Hassan City ticket and has the backing of former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy who wants to defeat sitting BJP member Preetham Gowda. Former minister and Holenarasipur MLA H.D.Revanna had an eye on this constituency to enable his wife Bhavani Revanna make her political debut.
Already, Revanna’s son, Prajwal Revanna is representing Hassan in the Lok Sabha, and another son, Suraj Revanna is a member of the State Legislative Council. This plan of Revanna had created fissures in the family of former PM H.D.Deve Gowda because Kumaraswamy wants to give the ticket to Swaroop to defeat Preetham Gowda.
On Friday, Shivakumar dropped a bomb saying that Arkalgud MLA A.T. Ramaswamy, Arsikere MLA K M.Shivalingegowda, and Swaroop are in touch with him to join the Congress party. Swaroop knocking on the doors of the Congress party at a time when Kumaraswamy had been trying his best to impress his dad, Deve Gowda to get him the ticket from Hassan City constituency, has come as a big surprise. But this news has cheered Revanna because everything is happening as per his convenience.
If Swaroop is really in touch with the PCC chief, then it would be very difficult for him to get the JD(S) ticket. It is learnt that Kumaraswamy is upset with the attitude of Swaroop and has reportedly sought information from him on whether what Shivakumar had said is true. Meanwhile, the JD(S) ticket aspirant has claimed it was a conspiracy of the Congress party to ruin his political career and to send a confusing signal to JD(S) followers.
