Bengaluru: Since a large number of cops are either falling sick or reportedly suffering from various health issues, especially in the South-East division of the city, Deputy Commissioner of Police Chandrashekhar K Baba has ordered the personnel to undergo a much needed health checkups to improve their health and fitness.

As the Assembly elections are fast approaching, there is no doubt that Bengaluru police personnel are having a hard time trying to maintain law and order in the city. According to police sources, recently some cops working in day and night shifts had complained of chest pain, while others had low blood pressure.

Concerned about the failing health of his officers, the DCP, SouthEast, has ordered them to take up the mandatory health checkups. Following the orders, around 800 policemen from 14 police stations underwent various health tests at Jayadeva Hospital in the city and the reports were shocking, the sources said.

Almost 20 per cent of the 800 policemen were found to have been suffering from high or low blood pressure, while another 20 per cent had issues with gastric and chest pains. It is said that this happens because of unhealthy lifestyle choices, such as not getting enough regular physical activity, which can also increase the risk of heart attack, stroke and other serious health problems.

"Officers suffering from health issues are being treated and will recover in sometime," a senior officer told News Trail.
