Bengaluru:

With an alarming increase in the number of suicide cases in the city, Bengaluru, unfortunately, may well gain the sobriquet 'suicide capital of India’. A 30-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in the city as her husband “forgot” to bring chocolates for her. The deceased was identified by the police as Nandini. According to police sources, Nandini married Gautham, who works at a saloon in the city and the couple have two children. The family resides in Sonnappa Layout of Hennur.

The incident took place on Thursday. Sources told News Trail that as usual Gautham was leaving for work when Nandini asked him to bring some chocolates when he returned home in the afternoon . It was revealed that Gautham got too busy with his work and forgot to get chocolates for her. However, he assured his upset wife that he would get them the next day before he went back to his workplace.

Gautham stated to the police that he called Nandini over her phone multiple times in the evening but he was worried after failing to get any response from her. He asked one of his neighbours to check on her following which it was revealed that she had hanged herself inside one of the rooms in their house. Rushing back to his house, Gautham took his wife to a hospital but was told by the doctors that she had already died.

The body was later sent for a post-mortem. A case has been registered at the Hennur Police Station and further investigation is on to ascertain if the reason for resorting to the extreme step was something else. (Suicide is not a solution.
