Sizzling summer: in Metro track catches fire, halts services

Bengaluru: The rising summer temperature adversely impacted the city's metro services on Monday causing insulation failure in the rubber of track due to excessive heat and halting the metro services for about 20 minutes, much to the inconvenience of commuters.

The incident took place at the busy Vivekananda Metro Station, on the Purple line at Old Madras Rd, at around 11 am. The incident was attributed to the rise in temperature, which caused an insulation failure in the rubber of the metro track.

This, in turn, led to a fire that was detected by the driver who immediately stopped the train and informed the station manager as a precautionary measure. The quick response and resolution of the issue by the metro officials brought the situation under control and the metro services resumed within 20 minutes.

A metro official said, “There was an insulation failure and it could be because of the summer temperature. The tracks are over 11 to 12 years old, that could also be the reason.” He also added that the issue was resolved immediately and normal metro services were resumed on the line
