Bengaluru: The city experienced ‘Zero Shadow Day’ on Tuesday. The celestial phenomenon occurred exactly at 12.17 pm. Citizens of Bengaluru shared their experiences on Twitter with photos.

Sharing photographs of their experience, Twitter user BSV wrote: “Witnessed this epic celestial phenomenon of ‘ #zeroshadowday ‘! The earth is at its peak position! +23.5 & -23.5! Such a sight to view!” Trishan Gangaraju, an engineer tweeted, “Bengaluru to witness an extraordinary Zero Shadow Day approaches April 25th, all vertical objects in the city will be shadowless at 12:17 pm, as the sun will be directly overhead at noon.” Ujyant Ramesh shared a photograph and said it looked photoshopped. “Witnessed the Zero Shadow stuff in Bengaluru now. Interesting stuff. Looks photoshopped.”

Yashodhannn tweeted a video with a few objects covering all sides showing that there was no shadow. Astronomical Society of India (ASI) wrote on its official website, “For people living between +23.5 and -23.5 degrees latitude, the Sun’s declination will be equal to their latitude twice – once during Uttarayan and once during Dakshinayan.

On these two days, the Sun will be exactly overhead at noon and will not cast a shadow of an object on the ground. This Zero Shadow Day will clearly be different for different places on Earth.” The phenomenon can be witnessed again in Bengaluru on August 18, 2023.
