Bengaluru: A day after monsoon rains lashed the city, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Commissioner Tushar Girinath held a meeting with all zonal commissioners and officials to review monsoon preparedness on Wednesday.

He directed the officials to tackle the monsoon rains efficiently. He asked the officials to take all measures to install CCTVs , street lights and water measuring meter gauges at vulnerable places across the city as such measures would prevent untoward incidents as was reported in the K R Circle underpass recently, which led to the death of a woman.

He informed that there are 53 underpasses in the city and civic works are initiated in 41 underpasses of them to prevent water logging. He pointed out that 198 spots with acute problems of water logging are identified in the city. Out of which, 118 vulnerable spots are rectified with permanent solutions, and temporary solutions were initiated in the remaining 80 spots. He also instructed the officials to be ready with pumps to drain rainwater after identifying the places.

“The Forest department team must be ready with equipment to remove fallen trees,” he said. As roads were damaged by ongoing works undertaken by Metro, BWSSB, Bescom, KPTCL, GAIL and other agencies, the commissioner said he would soon hold a meeting with these agencies and other inter-departmental officials to sort out the issues. He wanted senior officials to immediately inspect vulnerable spots, storm-water drains, rajakaluves, underpasses and over-bridges to take up repair, relief and rescue measures.
