Bengaluru: Without mincing words, leader of Opposition in the state Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah said his party will not allow the state government to pass the anti-conversion bill at any cost.
“What is the need to bring this bill in a hurry? The government is trying to implement this with a political motive in mind. The Constitution allows people to follow their customs and traditions and the same has been explained in Article 25. No one will agree to forceful conversion but no one can stop it if somebody converts to another religion having faith in it. This cannot be stopped. The proposed bill is aimed at harassing a particular caste and community”, he told the media in Belagavi on Monday.
The former CM said the decision to oppose the anti-conversion bill was taken only after discussion in the Congress Legislature Party(CLP) meeting Monday morning. He said the government is trying to bring the anti-conversion bill only to cover up its failures such as non-disbursement of relief to flood-victims. Corruption is rampant in the current government and several bigwigs are involved in the bitcoin scam. The government also does not want to be exposed on other issues too, he said.
With no achievements to present before the people, the government wants to bring in the anti-conversion bill which the Congress will not allow to be passed, Siddaramaiah added,
