Bengaluru: Domlur residents were shocked to see a portion of Dr Rajkumar Park compound wall broken by a few miscreants. The residents who visited Dr Rajkumar Park for a walk on Monday morning found a portion of the compound wall demolished and two huge grills removed.
The residents are worried about the safety of public property, especially parks, in and around Domlur if the miscreants go scot free after damaging the compound wall of the park adjacent to Old Airport Road, one of the busiest roads in the city.
“I suspect a few miscreants want to install one or two statues on the park premises. The park was developed a few years ago by spending lakhs of rupees. I came to know that the BBMP horticulture department spent Rs 40 lakh for the construction of the compound wall of the park,” said a resident pleading anonymity.
Dr Rajkumar Park is considered as one of the well-maintained parks in Shanthinagar Assembly constituency. The BBMP horticulture department has fenced the park with a huge grills - similar to those installed around Vidhana Soudha - to prevent unauthorized entry into the park. The compound wall consists of Sadarahalli stone pillars.
Demanding the BBMP authorities and the police to act tough against the miscreants responsible for the damage to Dr Rajkumar Park compound wall, Shivakumar V, a social activist, has said the damage to the park compound wall deserves to be condemned. “It is illegal to damage public property that is developed with tax-payers’ money. I expect the BBMP authorities and the police to take suitable action against the miscreants,’’ said Shivakumar. Dr Hemant Kumar Agrawal, a resident, has expressed shock over the damage caused to the park compound wall. “I want the BBMP authorities to take suitable action against those responsible for the crime,’’ said Dr Agrawal.
Meanwhile, BBMP Deputy Director (Horticulture) has said that he has deputed his deputy to the spot. “I am waiting for the report on the damage done to Dr Rajkumar Park compound wall,’’ said the Deputy Director.
BBMP (Horticulture) Superintendent told News Trail that he has visited the spot. “More than 25-ft long compound wall has been damaged apart from removing two huge grills. I, after consulting higher authorities, will file a police complaint against those responsible for the damage caused to the compound wall of the park,” said the Superintendent.
