Citizens demand flyover on Old Madras Road
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: The citizens residing along Old Madras Road in the city have long been advocating for the construction of a flyover connecting Tin Factory to Medahalli. This stretch of road has gained notoriety as the most dangerous and congested route, linking the city with neighboring states and towns. With over 2 lakh vehicles navigating through it daily, commuters often find themselves stuck in hourslong traffic jams.
Tragically, many lives have been lost in accidents along this treacherous road, leaving many individuals with life-altering injuries. Local MLA Bairati Basavaraja, acknowledging the decades-long struggle of the residents, brought their plight to the attention of the previous BJP government, with Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai allocating Rs 350 crore in the budget for the construction of an elevated corridor.
However, locals have raised concerns over the likely fate of the proposed flyover following the change in government, as the Congress-led administration under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has suspended several projects and grants initiated by the previous BJP government.
The uncertainty surrounding the fate of the flyover project has left the people of this region apprehensive. Given the gravity of the situation, the public has been urging the government to swiftly resume work on the flyover project and allocate the necessary funds for its construction. The community seeks a permanent solution to alleviate the constant perils faced by commuters on this crucial route.
