Bengaluru: Rajesh LY, a police inspector attached to the Bandipalya Police Station, was deeply concerned about a distressing trend unfolding before his eyes: a growing number of young individuals in his jurisdiction being drawn into illegal activities.
Recognising the transformative power of education, the policeman came to the realisation of providing these youth with access to quality education that may redirect their paths towards a brighter future. With this in mind, he took it upon himself to establish a small coaching program specifically tailored to school dropouts.
The programme, initiated by Rajesh, offered free classes to any individual seeking to learn, while also extending financial assistance to help students cover the costs of textbooks and other necessary materials. Moreover, during the training process, the cop and his team including constables identified students who had either failed or dropped out of school, engaging in conversations with both the students and their parents.
To ensure the success of the coaching program, the team collaborated with experienced teachers who devoted their time to guiding the students. The NGO Raajalaanchana and Team Darpana provided assistance by offering free meals to all 65 students enrolled in the coaching program. Over the course of the 20- day program, these dedicated efforts began yielding results.
Sharing his elation with the News Trail on Saturday, Inspector Rajesh revealed that three students had achieved scores surpassing 50 per cent in their supplementary exams while 30 per cent of the students had already secured admission into PU colleges in the city. Notably, one student, who had previously failed all subjects in the SSLC examination, had cleared all of them through the programme.
The remarkable progress achieved within a short span of 20 days led Inspector LY to reflect on the immense potential these students held, given the opportunity to concentrate on their education throughout their lives. With over 60 students enrolled, the program proved to be a success.
The results were officially announced on June 30, filling Inspector LY with overwhelming joy as he witnessed the tangible difference his initiative had made in the lives of these young individuals. Filled with hope, Inspector LY remains optimistic that such programs will play a crucial role in breaking the cycle of crime and poverty plaguing his community
