‘LoP should not be puppet of RSS’, Congress takes dig at BJP

Bengaluru: The newly-elected Congress party in Karnataka on Saturday took a dig at the BJP, the principal opposition party in the State over the absence of the Leader of the Opposition post.
“The candidate for the post should not be a puppet of the RSS and should be non-religious”, said the grand old party, slamming the BJP, by intervening in the internal issue of the party. While it is not the first time that the Congress slammed BJP over the LoP issue, the jibe comes at a time when the saffron party is likely to announce the name of the person for the post before the State’s budget session.
The delay in the appointment within the BJP is happening for multiple reasons and which we cannot openly voice out considering the internal infrastructure of the party, said a source from the BJP, on a condition of anonymity. BJP is the principal opposition party with 66 MLAs.
The delay also puts light on whether Basavaraj Bommai, the former Chief Minister, could retain his position as several party members came out against him after the defeat in the assembly election. “As the BJP has disconnected itself from the state after losing the assembly election, its focus is now all on the Lok Sabha election.
The party is not serious about Karnataka and which is why there is a delay in the appointment of the post. However, they might appoint a member from the crucial Lingayat or Vokkaliga community, considering the LS polls in mind”, said Assadi, a senior political analyst. Meanwhile, the sources from the BJP refused to comment on which community leader is likely to bag the opportunity.
In a further attack against the BJP, Congress also, in a series of mockery, said the leader of the opposition should not be graduated from WhatsAap University and demanded that he/she should be a leader with a dignified personality and strong speech and someone who strengthen the democracy
