Bengaluru: Not only local residents and motorists but also various organisations have expressed outrage over the toll charges to travel on the BengaluruMysuru Expressway set by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Rohit, who writes on his Twitter profile as a techie and an independent political consultant, has termed the toll collection as daylight robbery, and his tweet has received mixed reactions from netizens.
Rohit had tweeted two days ago, “I paid 320 as toll fee for Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway yesterday. I confirmed this from the Fasttag statement. It is daylight robbery. Rs 320 (car) toll fee for 140 km highway. Rohit's tweet received a mixed response, with former journalist Venki saying the length of the expressway is only 110 km. “At Rs 320. That means Rs 3 per km. it is better to take toll-free roads,” he tweeted.
One Ramakrishna Iyer responded to say: “That's why it's called an expressway. Use alternate roads if you don't want to pay toll fees. There are many roads. You want good quality roads. But don't want to pay.”
On July 1, toll collection began at the Ganangur Toll Plaza near Srirangapatna in Mandya. Cars, jeeps and other light motor vehicles (LMVs) charge Rs 320 for a one-way journey on the expressway. Toll of Rs 485 must be paid for same-day return journey. For those who can afford it, the cost is worth it.
