Student organisation gives thumbs up to edu allocation, policy

Bengaluru: All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) on Friday expressed satisfaction with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s Budget allocation for education.

They were in agreement with the CM on revision of textbooks, funding of the mid-day meal scheme and the decision to formulate a separate education policy for Karnataka.

However, AIDSO also pointed out that demands for the distribution of laptops and bicycles, apart from free bus passes for students, had gone unheeded.

AIDSO State Secretary Ajay Kamath said: “Grants have been announced for strengthening government educational institutions including building repairs and development of other facilities. The Chief Minister has announced that an expert committee will be appointed to revise the textbooks and implement a separate policy for the state, abandoning the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and increasing the funding for the mid-day meal scheme. AIDSO Karnataka State Committee welcomes these announcements made by the government.”

“This is a clear victory for the students and people's movement against NEP 2020 and demanding revision of textbooks and safeguarding public education. It is desired that the New Education Policy to be formulated in the state should be democratic and secular and not strengthening of the privatization, commercialization and communalization of education,” he added.
