Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday visited the Lakkasandra metro rail tunnel site and declared that underground work on the “pink line” would be completed by March 2025.
The pink line refers to the Kalena Agrahara near Bannerghatta Road to Nagawara line on Outer Ring Road. Shivakumar also visited the metro rail construction site on MG Road.
“Metro tunnel work is progressing very well. Despite the reports of the officials, I think it is prudent for me to observe the works myself. Officials tell me that a path of 20.9 kilometres has been carved out in the tunnel. A total of 18 stations are supposed to come up. The project would be taken up in four packages.
“In some places, work has been completed. In other places, some 70 to 80 per cent of the work has been completed. According to the information provided by the officials, these metro works would be completed by March 2025,” Shivakumar said.
As the Bengaluru Development Minister, Shivakumar has taken a special interest in infrastructure projects in the city. He added that he was in the process of studying the pros and cons of the extensive tunnel road that he had suggested to ease the traffic woes of the city.
A north to south tunnel was proposed between Yelahanka to Silk Board and an east to west corridor was mooted from KR Puram to Cantonment at an estimated cost of Rs22,000 crore.
