Bengaluru: Residents living near the Doddakannelli-Chikkanayakanahalli road have expressed their concerns at the increasing number of accidents occurring on this stretch.
Despite several incidents going unreported, locals claim that the road has become a hotbed for accidents in recent months. They point to various issues, including poor road conditions, speeding vehicles, and inadequate signage, which contribute to the dangers faced by commuters.
This article highlights the concerns raised by residents and calls for immediate action to address the safety hazards on this road.
Prone area for accidents
On Sunday at noon, a distressing accident occurred on the Doddakannelli-Chikkanayakanahalli road, sending shockwaves through the nearby residents. According to locals, this incident is just one among many accidents that have taken place in recent months.
The stretch features a curved bend at the beginning, and while one part of the road remains in good condition, the rest is riddled with potholes. In some sections, the road has even started to come apart. Despite being an interior road, it serves as a crucial connection between Chikkanayakanahalli, Gattahalli village, and Electronic City, making it a frequently used route.
Reckless commuters
Residents have observed that many commuters tend to speed along this road, further exacerbating the accident risks. The recovery of CCTV footage from a recent incident revealed a two-wheeler rider parked on the side of the road, who started his vehicle and proceeded to ride in the wrong direction without wearing a helmet.
Tragically, a speeding bike with a pillion rider crashed into him, resulting in the rider's fatal injuries. This incident highlights the reckless behaviour of some commuters and the urgent need for enhanced safety measures.
Residents demand action
Following the accident, members of the Citizens Movement East Bengaluru promptly notified the Bellandur traffic police and urged immediate action. They emphasised the importance of installing proper signboards and road humps along the stretch to mitigate speeding and improve safety conditions.
The residents are keen on preventing further accidents and ensuring the well-being of all commuters using the road. The Doddakannelli-Chikkanayakanahalli road has emerged as a hazardous route due to the prevailing road conditions, reckless driving, and inadequate safety measures.
The recent accident serves as a wake-up call for authorities to address these issues promptly. Enhancing road infrastructure, implementing stricter traffic regulations, and conducting awareness campaigns can significantly contribute to improving safety on this stretch.
The concerns raised by residents must be taken seriously, and immediate action should be taken to prevent further accidents and ensure the well-being of all commuters on this road.
