Nios declares students who scored 33% and above pass

Bengaluru: National Institute of Open Schooling (Nios) has come under fire after it was revealed that some students who scored more than 33 per cent in the Class X examination were declared failed.

This caused a lot of inconvenience to students, who were left wondering why they were not declared ‘passed’ in the exam despite scoring the requisite minimum marks.

The issue came to light after a report by News Trail, which highlighted the plight of several students who had been declared ‘failed’ despite scoring above the minimum passing mark of 33 per cent.

In response to the report, Nios has now declared that all students who scored 33 per cent and above in theClass X examination have ‘passed’. The decision was made after Nios reviewed its grading system and found that there had been some errors.

Nios's decision has been welcomed by the affected students, who are now relieved that their hard work has finally been recognised. However, the incident has also raised concerns about Nios's quality assurance processes.

A well-wisher whose grades were rectified said on behalf of the students, “Today, we realised the power of journalism. We thank News Trail for their courage in standing up for the noble cause of education, which is highly corrupted today. After their article was published, the Nios board reconsidered the results. Students who scored above 33 per cent but received SYC (subject yet to clear) have now been changed to ‘Pass’. Justice has been served. It's a pleasure to see students planning for higher studies. We can't thank News Trail enough for their incredible support.”
