Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said that he would have a study conducted which would ascertain if Kodava tribal communities could be included in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.

He made the promise to a delegation representing the ‘Rastriya Kodava Mandali Niyoga’ or the National Kodava Board Corporation. Congress MLA from Virajpet AS Ponnanna led the delegation of about 30 people.

Siddaramaiah promised that he would issue a gazette notification to change the entry of the community in various lists as ‘Kodagaru’.

It would be corrected to Kodava, he added. The community is based in Kodagu district and is considered an agriculturalist caste.
