Bengaluru: In a dastardly inident, a man was arrested for allegedly staging a road accident which left his pregnant wife bed-ridden for over six months.

The cops who had initially registered a case of road accident, are currently interrogating the husband identified as Arvind. It was revealed that Arvind and Chaitanya got married a year-and-a-half ago.

Following issues with her in-laws, Chaitanya allegedly demanded her husband to get separated from his parents, police said.

A few months later, Arvind started harassing his wife for forcing him to move away from his family. When Chaitanya's family attempted to resolve the issues between the couple, Arvind demanded a divorce from Chaitanya.

However he grew upset when she denied the divorce, sources said. Allegedly deciding to eliminate his wife, Arvind plotted to have her wife killed in an accident. He bought an old Tata Sumo car and hired a driver, Uday Kumar.

Arvind allegedly instructed Kumar to kill his wife, knocking her down when she was on her two-wheeler. Kumar agreed and before staging the accident, he scouted some places where she would go and where there were no CCTV cameras. Chaitanya was returning on a scooter after Bharatanatyam classes at KIADB Layout in Bagalur on the day of the incident.

A car, driven by Kumar, knocked her down in Bagalur Station Limits and left her severely injured. Arvind was present in the car with Kumar when the incident took place, said the police.

A few locals informed the police and rushed Chaitanya to a hospital. Devanahalli Traffic Police took stock of the situation and registered a case of road accident. However, following a probe to track the car involved in the accident, the cops grew suspicious and handed over the case to Bagalur Police in Bengaluru.

The police further found the car in a garage and questioned the previous owners which led to the arrest of Uday Kumar. Kumar later confessed to having deliberately caused the accident to kill the woman on the request of Arvind.

Meanwhile, parents of Arvind and Chaitanya are in a state of shock. Sources from the family said that Chaitanya has not yet fully recovered from her injuries. The cops have picked up Arvind and further investigation is underway
