2-, 3-wheelers banned on B'luru-Mysuru expressway from Aug 1
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has banned entry of bikes, autorickshaws, tractors, non-motorised vehicles and multi-axle hydraulic vehicles from using the main carriageways of the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway, from August 1.
The decision came after an increasing number of accidents on this newly inaugurated expressway. The NHAI in its notification stated that slowmoving vehicles like twowheelers, tractors, autos and other non-motor vehicles might compromise road safety aspects as the expressway is meant to be for fast-moving vehicles.
It also said that alternate routes and separate roads are available for such vehicles. Recently, the NHAI sent an expert committee to review and inspect the safety features on this road due to multiple accidents, ever since it was launched.
Earlier this month, answering a question in the Legislative Assembly, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said 100 people lost their lives in 84 accidents that occurred on the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway in the last four months, while 223 nonfatal accidents took place on the expressway injuring over 300 people.
