Bengaluru: The city police arrested a BJP worker on charges of using offensive language against the Karnataka Chief Minister’s family while raising questions regarding the case of the alleged videography at the Udupi college washroom to secretly film a girl.
Based on a complaint by a Congress worker Hanumantharaya, the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru arrested Shakuntala HS for using disparaging words on Twitter against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Three Muslim girl students of a college in Udupi have been accused of surreptitiously recording a video of a Hindu girl while she was using a washroom.
The incident came to light last week when a girl student found a mobile phone in the toilet and informed the college administration. An investigation was conducted and a clarification on the incident has already been provided by the college management and the jurisdictional police.
They said that the video was taken as 'a prank' and was immediately deleted soon after it was found. No video was circulated as alleged by the BJP workers.
"According to the Congress, the act of the young Muslim woman putting a camera in the toilet and making a video of the Hindu girl was no more than a childish prank. What If Siddaramaiah's daughterin-law or wife were filmed in this manner? Would they still consider it a child’s play?" Shakuntala had tweeted.
The BJP workers in the state politicised the incident and held a statewide protest against the Congress on Thursday, demanding an investigation by a central agency.
Following arrest, Shakuntala HS was later released on station bail. Meanwhile, another FIR was registered against 15 BJP Yuva Morcha members for trying to gherao the Karnataka home minister’s residence while protesting against him over the same Udupi video case.
“They tried to gherao my residence. They probably thought, through this they can grab some attention," Home Minister G Parameshwara said.
