Bengaluru: Bruhat Benga - luru Mahanagara Palike  (BBMP) said Twitter was not an option for them to address public grievances.

Saying that the Twitter handle of the civic body doesn’t show up 70-90% of the tweets, it asked the public to file a complaint through their helpline number 1533 or send a message on WhatsApp on the number 94806 85700 to report any civic issues related to BBMP in their neighbourhood.

However, the citizens turned heat against its announcement and said the civic body didn’t respond despite sending a text on WhatsApp.

Amitshama, a user on Twitter posted his WhatsApp texts sent to BBMP requesting it to repair a footpath slab, and said no one from the civic body turned up despite registering complaints and repeated follow-ups.

A few users have also compared the announcement with the civic body handles of Hyderabad and Mumbai and slammed the BBMP to learn from them how to address public grievances on Twitter.

BBM P lau nched its helpline number in 2021, allowing citizens to seek information on the civic body and Covid-19.
