Bengaluru: City police on Tuesday busted a honey trap case by arresting three men who were allegedly involved in extorting money by trapping gullible victims.

A swift action was taken up by Puttenahalli police following a complaint filed by a techie who had fallen into the trap.

The accused were identified by the police as Yasin, Prakash Balegar and Abdul Khader. Two more accused, Neha Mehar and her boyfriend, Nadeem, are currently on the run, police said. Explaining the modus operandi of the gang, the police said that the woman, Neha, had created multiple profiles on Telegram and Instagram, posing as a model from Mumbai.

She would lure men, especially youngsters stating that she was living alone. As soon as someone fell into their trap, the woman would invite him to a rented house in Vinayaknagar for a private meeting.

However the three accused would barge in and start blackmailing the victim after taking some pictures of him with the woman, police added.

According to the cops, the accused had trapped over a dozen persons and had managed to extort lakhs of rupees from them. Efforts are on to nab the other two accused, the police said.
