Police register 137 cases, collect Rs 65k in fine

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: On Tuesday, the Ramangara police took action against violators as the ban on two- and three-wheelers, tractors and non-motorised vehicles was enforced on the BengaluruMysuru Expressway by the NHAI.

They registered 137 cases and collected fines amounting to Rs 68,500 from the offenders. Superintendent of Police Karthik Reddy from Ramanagara posted about the restriction on social media platform X, urging the said vehicles to use the service road due to access restrictions.

The NHAI issued the ban on July 12, following a rise in accidents on the expressway inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 12.

The order aimed to protect slow-moving vehicles from the risk posed by highspeed vehicles.

Despite the prior notice, some commuters still violated the rules, prompting the presence of officials from Ramanagara, Mysuru and Mandya police on the day the ban was implemented.
