Bengaluru: Three people died after a water tank from a four-storeyed building collapsed on a food stall near Shivajinagar Bus Station in the city. While one person died on the spot, the other two succumbed to injuries on Thursday morning.
The incident took place around 10:30 pm on Wednesday when a few people were standing around the street food vendor who had stopped his pushcart on the footpath adjacent to a building. Luckily, the vendor escaped with minor injuries.
The deceased were identified by the police as Arul, 40, Kota Nageshwar Rao, 32, and Karan Thapa, 32. Police said that Arul died on the spot while severely injured Kota and Karan were rescued from the rubble and shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of nearby Bowring hospital where they died later.
Soon after the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru East, Bheemashankar S Guled, who reached the spot, said, "Two people died and one person was critically injured after a water tank fell on them from the building," he said on Wednesday night.
On Thursday, an officer from Commercial Street Police Station said, "It took us a while to identify Kota, but we had shifted him along with a severely injured Karan to the hospital. Arul's body was also taken to the hospital. Kota died during midnight and then Karan breathed his last in the early hours of Thursday," he told News Trail.
The police added that the wall of the building on which the water tank had been placed had become damp and weak due to constant water overflows.
The DCP later said that a case under section 304A (Causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code has been taken up by the police and further probe is underway
