'Do not reignite 1965': Stalin warns Shah over 'Hindi imposition'

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister DMK President MK Stalin, on Saturday, hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his comments, and threatened him not to reignite the 1965 Hindi imposition protest again.

On Friday, Shah announced that Hindi must be accepted without opposition even if the speed of the acceptance is slow. His comments sparked a row among DMK and its allies in Tamil Nadu.

Stalin said that the Tamil language and heritage define the state and added it won’t be enslaved by Hindi.

“I strongly denounce Amit Shah’s audacious push for Hindi acceptance. It is a blatant attempt to subjugate non-Hindi speakers. Tamil Nadu rejects any form of Hindi hegemony and imposition. Our language and heritage define us, and we won’t be enslaved by Hindi,” he said.
