Govt to close 1,695 unauthorised schools

Bengaluru: Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Madhu Bangarappa stated recently that there are over 1,695 unauthorised schools in the State.

The government plans to close these schools in stages. The minister also emphasised that block education officers would be held responsible for any new schools operating without proper authorisation.

Bangarappa revealed this information following a meeting with the Karnataka Private Managements’ Association in Bengaluru.

He explained that association members had raised concerns about illegal schools in the State, and they discussed potential solutions to address the issue.

While acknowledging the presence of these illegal schools, the minister noted that an immediate shutdown is not feasible due to the large number of students enrolled in them.

He pointed out that some schools had upgraded or relocated without obtaining the necessary permissions.

Bangarappa assured that all these unauthorised schools would eventually be closed down in a phased manner to reduce their numbers.

On August 9, the Education department issued a circular instructing all district-level officers to close down these illegal schools by August 14.
