Cancelling NEP just for politics is an unforgivable crime; decision must be reconsidered: Bommai

Bengaluru: It is an unforgivable crime to cancel the NEP in the state just for the sake of politics, ignoring the future of our children, said former CM Basavaraj Bommai adding that the government must reconsider its decision.

Replying to questions from media persons at the BJP state office here on Tuesday, Bommai said the New Education Policy (NEP) has been formulated in line with today’s times.

The NEP was drafted by a panel headed by eminent scientist Dr K. Kasturirangan.

“The government must not play with the future of kids. When this has been implemented in the entire country, how fair is it to deny our kids this learning? It will impact children in rural areas. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah must not see this from a political angle but consider it keeping in mind the future of kids. The incumbent government must reconsider its decision or else the BJP will launch a big movement involving parents and educational institutions,” he warned.

Replying to a question, he said three months have passed after the Siddaramaiah government announced a probe into works done during the tenure of the previous BJP government.

According to reports, they found nothing in the probe. Now a ‘political investigation’ is going on, he quipped. No one would object if the culprits are punished but targeting someone in the name of an investigation is not acceptable, he added.

The former CM slammed Congress National General Secretary and In-Charge of Karnataka Affairs Randeep Singh Surjewala’s statement that those who vote for the BJP are demons, and said it is a big insult to every citizen of the nation.

‘’Is the Congress Party as clean as a pearl.’’ he wondered adding that the nation had witnessed the most corrupt Congress governments in the last 75 years.
