We will release 10 TMC to Tamil Nadu, says DKS amid TN plans to move SC

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Against the backdrop of Tamil Nadu approaching the Supreme Court for the immediate release of Cauvery water from Karnataka, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said the Karnataka government will release 10 TMC of water to Tamil Nadu though it does not have sufficient water.

“There is no need to involve the Supreme Court in this matter”, Shivakumar said, answering questions of reporters.

The Congress government’s move comes after former CM Basavaraj Bommai asked Chief Minister Siddaramiah not to provide water to Tamil Nadu. Shivakumar also stressed the importance of saving farmers of the two states and said, “It is the duty of both states to save our farmers”.

He said Tamil Nadu is a neighboring state and Karnataka does not want to get into a tussle on this issue.

Interestingly, Tamil Nadu Water Resource Minister Duraimurugan had claimed that Karnataka is not releasing enough water Tamil Nadu.

According to him, Karnataka has decided to release 8000 cusecs, as against the stipulated 24000 cusecs.
