BBMP delimitation: City to have 225 wards, up from 198

Bengaluru: The State government has revealed that the delimitation exercise pertaining to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been completed, adding that the number of wards have increased from 198 to 225.
The Kar nataka High Court (HC) had on July 21 ordered that the delimitation exercise be completed in under 12 weeks and the State government responded to the same.
The erstwhile BJP government had also delimited the BBMP wards, which went from 198 to 243 in August last year. Congress, then in the Opposition in the state, had opposed it, terming the wards “unscientific”.
The party had also not been happy with the BJP allegedly concentrating most of the 50 per cent wards reserved for women in traditional Congress and JD(S) strongholds.
The new wards delimited wards would in principle address the grouses. Earlier, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy had estimated that the BBMP elections would most likely be held in December. However, there is also likely to be a HC directive regarding the same.
