Ramanagar: Appreciations started pouring in for the Ramanagara Town Police after they rescued a minor girl who was assaulted and abducted by a gang of miscreants in a car on Monday morning.
The incident took place around 9 am on the IB Road near the Girls' Junior College. The girl was about to enter her college premises along with her friends when a car stopped in front of them.
Speaking to News Trail, the police said that the victim was waylaid by the accused and his associates who were waiting for her near the college. Seizing the moment when she was alone, they forcefully grabbed her arms and hands, leading to a struggle.
As the girl began to scream for help, several people started running towards the car. As the struggle escalated, the kidnapper stabbed her in the shoulders and on hands, causing her to collapse due to profuse bleeding.
The assailants then forcibly pulled her into their car, managing to flee the scene despite the intervention of locals and fellow students. Some of the students even pelted stones at the kidnappers to rescue the girl.
The police were soon alerted about the matter and a team was deployed after tracking the movements of the gang. Around 11 am, the accused were intercepted and arrested by the police.
The victim was rushed to a hospital. The family of the victim was informed after which a complaint was filed against the accused identified as Chethan, a cab driver.
The accused told the police that the girl had spurned him when he professed love for her. Both the accused and the victim hail from the same village in Ramanagara district.
It was revealed that despite the girl's repeated rejection, Chethan continued to harass her. The police suspected that this could potentially be the reason behind the assault and abduction attempt.
However, authorities are actively working to swiftly ascertain the exact motive and connect any other possible suspects to the case.
According to sources, the condition of the girl is serious and she is currently in the Intensive care unit (ICU). The police are yet to record her statement. Further probe is underway.
