Karnataka unveils tri-annual board examinations for SSLC, II PUC students
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: In a significant overhaul of the board examination system, the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) has unveiled a new plan requiring SSLC and second PUC students to undergo exams three times a year, effective immediately from this academic year.
The education department of Karnataka has stated that the student's final performance will be determined based on their best performance in the three board examinations.
The previous examination, which consisted of main and supplementary exams, was found to impose undue stress and anxiety on students.
In an effort to foster a more positive outlook among students, the education department has decided to rebrand all three exams as board examinations, eliminating the 'main' and 'supplementary' classifications.
The new examination system
Under the existing system, if a second PUC student is dissatisfied with marks in any subject, they have the option of rejecting those marks from the main examination and reattempt the subject in the supplementary exam.
However, only the marks obtained in the supplementary exam will be considered as the final scores, disregarding the marks from the previous examination.
The new examination system offers students the opportunity to enhance their scores by retaining the highest marks achieved across the first, second, and third examinations.
The decision has been justified by emphasising that students have diverse learning paces and styles. Conducting three exams allows them to adapt to their own learning pace and mitigates the stress associated with time constraints.
Schedule for the Examinations
For second PUC students, the first examination is scheduled between March 1 and 25, the second between May 15 and June 5, and the third between July 12 and July 30.
For SSLC students, the first exam will take place from March 30 to April 1, the second from June 12 to June 19, and the third from July 29 to August 5.
