Dakshina Kannada Muslims place demands before ministers

Dakshina Kannada, NT Bureau: Members of the Muslim community in Dakshina Kannada district called upon co-religionists who are a part of the State government to reverse the “injustices” meted out to them by the erstwhile BJP regime.

Minister for Housing and Minority Affairs Zameer Ahmed Khan, Minister for Municipal Administration and Haj Rahim Khan and Political Secretary to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Naseer Ahmed responded positively, adding that they would be forthcoming to the minority community’s demand.

The demands included scholarships for underprivileged Muslim students, loans to promote self-employment, ensuring better accessibility to students who want to pursue education domestically and abroad, recalling of Muslim officials who held important positions in the district but were “purposefully” transferred by the BJP government, allowances for madrasa (Islamic seminaries) teachers, simplification of grant regulations, particularly for Muslim women patients through the Waqf Board and construction of a Haj Bhavan in Mangaluru.

Naseer Ahmed said that a one crore rupee loan scheme, which was previously set aside only for SCs and STs had been extended to Other Backward Classes (OBCs), including minorities.
