Reports of Ramya’s death greatly exaggerated

Bengaluru: Fake news about the death of popular Kannada actor Ramya did the rounds of social media on Wednesday but was quickly debunked.
It was claimed that the actor who also goes by Divya Spandana had succumbed to a heart attack. As it turned out, she had been in Geneva as was confirmed by her acquaintances who had been with her at the time and others who called her from Bengaluru.
The false news spread like wildfire when an account on micro-blogging site X (previously Twitter) posted that the actress was dead, which led to her fans sending out condolences. Moreover, the hashtag #DivyaSpandana began trending.
However, senior journalists Chitra Subramaniam and Dhanya Rajendran, apart from fact-checker Mohammed Zubair pointed out that Ramya was alive and well.
In fact, Subramaniam confirmed that she had met the actress in Geneva on the very same day. “Wonderful meeting the very talented and genteel lady @divyaspandana for dinner in Geneva. We talked about many things, including our love for Bangalore,” she posted on X.
