City-wide bandh tomorrow, autos, taxis, private school vehicles will be on halt

Bengaluru: The peaceful sleep of Bengaluru residents faces an imminent disruption tonight as private transport unions announce a strike set to affect the city come Monday morning.

The motivation behind this chaos is the government's Shakti Yojana initiative, which has thrust private transport unions into the spotlight. Long embroiled in disputes with the government over various issues, the Private Transport Associations Union has called for a city-wide bandh (a protest involving service suspensions) in the city on Monday.

They are demanding action on multiple fronts, including restrictions on bikes and taxis, as well as subsidies for drivers.

Initially concerned about financial losses due to the Shakti Yojana, the union now seeks to draw government attention to their broader cause. Supported by over 30 private organisations and various drivers' associations, the impending bandh is set to cause significant disruption.

Over 300,000 autos, 150,000 taxis, 20,000 goods vehicles, more than 5,000 private school vehicles, 80,000 city taxis, and corporate company buses will halt operations, impacting daily life.
