Anti-Conversion Bill: Fireworks expected in Assembly
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: The state Cabinet has decided to table the contentious Anti-Conversion Bill in the ongoing winter session of the Legislature in Belagavi.
At the Cabinet meeting held at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha on Monday morning, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai appealed to ministers to defend the government in both the Legislative Assembly and Council since the Opposition Congress and JD(S) have opposed the bill tooth and nail. They must make it clear that the bill is not aimed at the minority Christian community but only against forced conversion by offering money to poor families.
Fireworks are expected in the Assembly on Tuesday as the Congress has decided to oppose the bill. Friday is the last day of the ongoing session and the bill must be passed in both Houses to make it a legislation.
