BMRCL takes action on rapid survey report for sapling survival

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has responded proactively to a rapid survey report conducted by Raghavendra B Pachhapur of the ActionAid Association regarding the status of saplings planted by the company as part of compensatory afforestation in three lakes of Bengaluru.

The survey report pointed out various issues affecting the saplings, including water stress, the absence of tree guards, and binding wires causing harm to the tree trunks.

In light of these findings, BMRCL has taken several corrective actions. Firstly, BMRCL has instructed its contractors to hang boards instead of tying them to the sapling trunks.

Additionally, the company has committed to providing tree guards for all future compensatory plantations across different locations in the city. To address water stress during the summer months, BMRCL has already directed its contractors to ensure adequate watering through water tankers.

Moreover, BMRCL has deployed three dedicated staff members to closely monitor sapling maintenance. Furthermore, BMRCL has pledged to maintain cleanliness around the saplings through regular maintenance efforts.

It's important to note that BMRCL has clarified that it is not responsible for solid waste disposal in the lakes.

These proactive measures taken by BMRCL demonstrate a commitment to ensuring the survival of the planted saplings and the overall improvement of Bengaluru's environment.
